Things to Take Care of When You First Move Into a Home
Moving into your new home is an exciting time! But before you celebrate, there are a few items you’ll want to check off your list to ensure your safety and well-being in your new home.
Change your locks
You never know who has had keys to your home in the past, so the best thing to do is call a locksmith and get new keys. If you have an access code to your garage door or any other point of entry, it’s also a good idea to reprogram the code.
Rent a carpet cleaner or call the professionals – either way, you’ll want a fresh and clean start to living in your new home! Plus, it’ll eliminate any pet smells or other odors left behind by the previous owner. Dust and wash all the walls. Consider a new coat of paint if any chips appear or colors seem outdated.
Replace commonly used items
Update any of the filters in your heating and cooling systems and plan on replacing any old toilet seats, if desired. Put new batteries in your house alarms and smoke detectors as well to ensure they are working properly.
Now is the perfect time to hire pest control professionals to make sure there are no other guests living in your house with you. They’ll be able to tell if there are any holes in the home that need fixing.
Call your local provider to setup your internet, cable and phone. Also make sure to get your electricity, water and gas turned on.
Meet your neighbors
It’s always good to feel at ease with your new surroundings, and meeting your new neighbors can help you feel settled in.
